Foreword from the Author
Anyone who loves cars is a Honda fan.
From the moment Honda released its first car as an automaker, it felt like the Honda brand was unique and different. After all, they were the first to create a twin-cam engine and then built a small, real sports car with it.
Even though Honda has a proven track record with motorcycles, they packed in all those specs, and yet the chain drive really sealed the Honda vibe. Honda is interesting, and provides a lot to talk about.
I immediately understood why. Everyone at Honda loves cars and works there. In other words, they share the same way of thinking as us. There’s a sense of camaraderie, like wanting to surprise car enthusiasts. What they’re aiming for, what they’re trying to convey, comes across naturally, so it’s only natural that it would become a Honda fan. That’s how I even thought.
As Honda grew, it felt like they had drifted a little away from car enthusiasts, but perhaps that was the flip side of having long assumed they were on the side of car enthusiasts. The Honda NSX, which appeared at such a time, made such a big impact, and looking back, it makes sense.
I wish I could compile these unforgettable Honda cars into a book, and share those fun, enjoyable days forever. I had long thought about it, but… Now that I’ve finally begun, I’m surprised at how many interesting Honda cars there are!
I want to preserve each one in the memories of car enthusiasts overseas. This is, of course, why we decided to use bilingual Japanese and English. Honda, known worldwide as “Honda,” is even more well-known overseas than in Japan. I hope this book will become a menu for car enthusiasts around the world to enjoy unforgettable Honda cars.
